A home with a past. Answers for its future.
From reclaimed teak and architectural heritage to delivery and lifelong care — discover the details behind your unique Indonesian home.
Heritage & Authenticity
What makes an ABADI HOME unique?
Every project brings together reclaimed Indonesian teak, traditional architectural character and contemporary living. Available materials and original details make each home distinctive.
Are your homes made from original Indonesian houses?
We prioritise reusable timber and elements recovered from existing Indonesian structures. A project may combine materials from one or several buildings with carefully selected replacement parts.
How old are the reclaimed timber structures?
Age varies by structure. Historical information may help estimate a period, but we do not describe an estimated age as verified without supporting evidence.
What is the difference between a Joglo, Limasan and Gladak?
These are distinct Indonesian architectural traditions, recognised by their proportions, roof forms and structural features. Our collections draw inspiration from these styles.
Can you prove the origin of every timber element?
The amount of provenance information varies. We gather and share available records, while identifying any elements whose origin or age cannot be independently confirmed.
Is every reclaimed teak piece completely original?
Not necessarily. Existing elements may need repair, reinforcement or replacement after inspection; any material changes should be described in the agreed project scope.
Does reusing timber help protect Indonesian heritage?
Careful reuse can preserve elements of traditional craftsmanship and architecture. The cultural significance and documented history of each structure vary.
What does “one of a kind” mean at ABADI HOME?
No two available reclaimed structures have exactly the same history, timber characteristics or architectural details. Your final design is also developed around your project.
Collections & Design
Which collections does ABADI HOME offer?
Our collections are The Nest, The Retreat, The Legacy and The Bespoke, covering intimate retreats, villas, larger residences and individually designed projects.
Can I customise the size and layout?
Often, within the limits of available materials, structural feasibility and destination regulations. Any changes are assessed before a proposal is finalised.
Can traditional architecture be combined with modern interiors?
Yes. Contemporary glazing, kitchens, bathrooms and finishes can be incorporated when the structural design and local requirements allow.
Can an ABADI HOME become a permanent residence?
It can, provided the completed building meets local planning, engineering, safety and habitability requirements.
Can I build on an existing property?
Possibly. Access, foundations, ground conditions, available space and permits must be checked for the intended site.
Are your structures suitable for hospitality projects?
They may suit boutique villas, retreats, guest accommodation or other hospitality uses, subject to project design and local commercial regulations.
Can I add air conditioning, a kitchen and bathrooms?
Yes, these can be included in the overall design. The scope of services and installation is specified separately for each project.
Are all models currently in stock?
No. Collections present design directions; actual availability depends on the individual reclaimed structures and materials sourced at the time of enquiry.
Materials & Restoration
How do you select reclaimed teak?
Available timber is reviewed for condition, dimensions, character and suitability. Structural reuse requires appropriate technical assessment.
Is old teak as strong as new timber?
Strength depends on the actual condition of each component, its joints and the loads it must carry. Age alone does not establish structural performance.
How is the timber protected against termites?
Material is inspected and suitable treatment measures may be specified as needed. Prevention and periodic monitoring are still important after installation.
Will restoration preserve the original patina?
Where practical, we aim to retain marks, texture and details that give the timber its character while addressing condition and safety requirements.
Are traditional timber joints retained?
Original joinery can be preserved where suitable. Engineering reviews may lead to repair, reinforcement or alternative connections.
Can these homes work in cold or tropical climates?
Potentially. Insulation, ventilation, moisture protection and structural loading must be designed for the specific destination and climate.
Is reclaimed teak automatically sustainable or carbon neutral?
No. Reusing wood may offer advantages, but sourcing, restoration and long-distance transport still have impacts. Quantified environmental claims require evidence.
Can the structure be moved again in the future?
Some timber structures can be dismantled and rebuilt, but future relocation depends on their condition, connections, local rules and professional assessment.
Purchase & Worldwide Delivery
Can you ship an ABADI HOME internationally?
We assess worldwide projects individually. Delivery feasibility depends on export and import requirements, freight access, documentation and destination regulations.
How is a wooden house prepared for shipping?
Reusable elements can be documented, carefully dismantled, labelled and packed. Packing and transport plans depend on the selected structure.
Who installs the house at the destination?
Installation responsibilities are agreed by project. Qualified local teams and destination-specific engineering or permits may be necessary.
Will it meet my country’s building codes?
Compliance is determined locally. Architects, engineers and authorities may need to approve the design, foundations, materials and final construction.
How much does an ABADI HOME cost?
Costs vary with available timber, structure size, restoration, design and scope. We prepare an individual quotation after discussing your project.
What is included in the quotation?
Included items are listed in writing. Never assume shipping, duties, foundations, services, finishes, permits or local assembly are included unless specified.
How long does a project take?
Schedules depend on sourcing, inspections, restoration, design, transport and approvals. We provide a project-specific timeline once requirements are defined.
Can I visit a structure before buying?
Where a structure is accessible and available, we can discuss viewing arrangements or provide additional images, video and technical details.
Can I reserve a particular reclaimed structure?
Reservations are subject to availability and written terms, including any deposit, duration and cancellation conditions.
What if timber is damaged during shipping?
Damage should be documented and assessed. Repair, replacement and insurance responsibilities follow the agreed freight and purchase terms.
Heritage Passport & Long-Term Care
What is the ABADI Heritage Passport?
It is a proposed project record for eligible homes, designed to document available architectural, provenance, restoration and structural identification information after review.
Is the Heritage Passport an official government certificate?
No. It is a private documentation initiative, not an official customs, forestry, phytosanitary, ownership or government-issued certificate.
What documents accompany my purchase?
Depending on the project, documents may include an agreed quote, timber inventory, available source records, drawings and shipping paperwork. Any additional deliverables are contractual.
Can the Heritage Passport be passed to future owners?
Yes. The concept is designed to preserve available information so that the home’s documented story can accompany successive owners and generations.
How do I maintain a reclaimed teak house?
Care depends on climate, finishes, moisture exposure and condition. Periodic inspection, suitable cleaning and timely repairs are essential.
